Thomas Mulcair and the NDP have been largely supportive of Canada’s positions on Russian aggression in the CEE, Russia’s annexation of Crimea and ongoing aggression in Eastern Ukraine.
Mr Mulcair has said that he would immediately end missions in Iraq and Syria but would support the continuation of Canada’s training mission in Ukraine. During the recent Foreign Policy debate, Mr. Mulcair pointed to the fact that close Putin advisors, Igor Sechin nor Vladimir Yakunin are on Canada’s sanctions list.
The NDP has also stated that they would adopt Magnitsky legislation that would place visa bans and asset freezes on Russian human rights abusers.
The official NDP platform does not mention, Russia, CEE or NATO.
